7/8th Math

Welcome to the 7th and 8th grade mathematics website at Ambrose Catholic Academy. My name is Mr. Bartosik, and I am the 7th and 8th grade math teacher, as well as the Title 1 math teacher at ACA. I look forward in continuing to work with the students at Ambrose Catholic Academy to help them develop  their mathematical knowledge, and reasoning, and understand how math is used in real life situations.

Probability Fair

On Thursday, April 7th, 5th and 8th grade students are working together to have a Probability Fair for students and families in the gym at Ambrose Catholic Academy. At the probability fair, 5th and 8th grade students will work together to run probability games. Each student will receive tickets to play the game, and each game will have prizes if the student wins the game.

7th Grade and 8th Grade Mathematics In this chapter, students are learning how to simplify algebraicexpressions by combining like terms.  If there were 6 people in Sabres jerseys, 4 people in Flyers jerseys, and then 2 more people in Sabres jerseys, we would say there are 8 people in Sabres jerseys and 4 in Flyers jerseys.

 6S + 2F + 4F  =  8S + 4F

We combine like terms to make things easier, and to solve equations. We are also solving equations in this chapter.    We have been working on solving for variables or letters  2x + 4 = 10        x = 3

In this chapter students are also learning about inequalities and how we use inequalities in everyday life.  When we we hear  that the Buffalo Sabres are going to finish the season with at least 86 points. We are using an inequality.  Inequalities are: less than, greater than, less than or equal to, or greater than or equal to

Homework and Study Tips: The best way to understand and succeed in math, is to do math problems. Like with any sport or instrument you play, you get better by spending countless hours practicing. Take notes in class, and use your notes to help you with your homework, and with studying. If you have trouble with a certain section in book, ask questions in class, email me, or come see me, and I will help you.

If you are not sure if you are doing your homework correctly, or are studying for a test, and want to make sure you know each section, complete odd number problems in the book, and check your answers in the back.

Our Class - In our class, we spend alot of time taking notes, and using real life situations, and word problems, to understand the topics that are being taught. Aside from taking notes, and completing problems on the whiteboard, students also learn by using the IXL website, which is an interactive way for each student to answer math questions on the computer. Students complete a "Lets Take a Trip" project planning and budgeting a trip within the United States of America. Students also take part in creating Probability games for our probability unit, and test the probability. We also use  the NCAA March Madness tournament bracket to determine probability. Students will also spend time determining percentages of Skittle colors in groups.
