Kindergarten

Welcome To Kindergarten!!!

Hello and Welcome to our Ambrose Catholic Kindergarten. We are going to have a wonderful, hardworking and fun year ahead.  I am looking forward to working with you, and helping your child to grow and succeed for the first school year. Kindergarten is a year of learning and exporing many new things. We are focusing on social growth as well as academics. There will be directed instuction in reading, math, religion, science and social studies. We will engage in cooperative centers and playtime.  Differentiated instruction plays is an important role in our classroom. Every child  may be at a various instructional level... It is my responsibilty to make sure that the children are taken from the level they are at to a higher level. Individual needs will be met in my classroom.

My philosophy for discipline is based on the belief children need affectionate care and firm guidance in a flexible environment. We focus  on positive reinforcement through daily routines and  self reflection in the "Thinking Chair."

Students are expected to treat all members  of our class with kindness and respect. Hitting, Name calling, and making fun of others will not be permitted.

  • Religion -In Religion this year we work on daily prayers, including The Sign of The Cross, the Hail Mary, the Our Father and Our special School prayer, written by the eigth grade. We will also discuss God's Creation of Our families and the world around us.
  • Reading   In Reading we focus on letter recognition, as well as identifying that each letter has a sound with the vowels beng "Special letters".  I foster reading through the use of trade books and good literary stories with familiar text that is often predictable. Key skills included in Kindergarten are Rhyming words, word families and associations. We will sequence story events and identify parts of a story and characters.  We will be reading basic sight words... about 100 with mastery of 50.
  • Math  In Math we  begin work with number sense, recognition and counting, using manipulatives. We move to assorted skills, including identifying money, time, patterns, simple addition and measurement.
  • Science and Social Studies In these areas we explore our families, communtities and their helpers, the seasonal importance of holidays and healthy habits. We also include fun facts about animals and living things around us.
  • General Skills  We work on motor skills daily through coloring, printing, and painting, as well as daily exersice.
