Physical Education

Hello there!
I just want to take this time to introduce myself and the program here at A.C.A.
My name is Mr. May and I am the Physical Education Teacher at Ambrose Catholic Academy and a proud graduate of St. Bonaventure University...GO BONAS! After graduating, I made my way down to Charlotte, North Carolina to teach PE to grades K-5. After missing the winters, teams (Go Bills, Sabres, Bonnies and Orange), and of course the food, I moved back to take this wonderful position at A.C.A.

The program here strives to develop health and sports skills while maintaining an emphasis on sportsmanship and respect. Through cooperative games such as "Ultimate Basketball" and "Wall Ball" we can develop all the main skills relating to a sport while infusing teamwork and cooperation all at once. This model serves as a basis of instruction and helps bring students closer together as one cohesive team.

In the primary grades, a strong emphasis is placed on gross and fine motor skills. The belief is that students needs to learn the basic building blocks of PE so that after their school lives are over, they can take their knowledge and pass it on to others. Through cardio games and station work students can learn through differentiated instruction. This lets the students learn at their own comfort level and takes the fear of competition out of the equation. This is in turn leads to students learning skills without the pressure of keeping up with their peers.

 Upcoming Schedule

March/April

K-2 will be learning more sports and fitness skills through various cooperative games and stations through out the months ahead. We will be focusing on their skill assessments as well coming up at the beginning of April.
3-5 will be starting our "Pillow Polo" unit and the the 6-8 grades will be getting into our street hockey unit.

As always parents and students, please remember your sneakers and gym uniform. It is school policy for all students to wear the required PE uniform
