Welcome to the Junior High Language Arts Website for the 2010 - 2011 school year at Ambrose Catholic Academy! This site will hopefully serve as a quick and easy way for parents to know more about what is going on in our classroom. You can visit this site to learn about class news and events, check homework, and much more. I will do my best to update this page regularly.
ELA Curriculum:
1. READING/LITERATURE:
- minimum of 25 books required to be read during the school year
- develop students' use of reading strategies
- identify and analyze points of view in written texts
- discuss and defend an opinion using details from the reading for support
2. WRITING:
- use a variety of strategies to plan and organize ideas for writing
- keep topic ideas and draft copies of writing in a writing folder
- use the steps of the writing process in all writing assignments
- reinforce editing techniques
3. GRAMMAR:
- focus on parts of speech, punctuation, and proper sentence structure
- daily language review
Student Responsibilities:
4. DAILY:
- copy all assignments in daily planner and include due dates
- keep track of all handouts and worksheets in a special Take Home folder
- do ALL homework assignments and hand them in on time
- participate in class and ask questions
- make time each night for studying - review notes, practice spelling and vocabulary
- take pride in work - neat and legible handwriting - check for completeness and correctness
5. ABSENCE:
- Homework Buddy sheet will be completed and sent home, if possible
- student is responsible to find out what was covered in class and complete any homework assigned
- number of days absent is the number of days allowed to make up any missing work
- extenuating circumstances will be honored when informed in writing
